PURO²XYGEN P500: Set up and dimensions
- Length: 13.07 inches
- Width: 6.65 inches
- Height: 20.16 inches
The initial thought on unboxing this air purifier is that it’s pretty big. While its design is slim and modern, you’ll need to factor in where you’re going to put this machine. It’s fitted with two handles so that you can easily move it around, plus, weighing less than 10 pounds, it’s super light too.
The PURO²XYGEN P500 comes with a slimline remote control and an instruction booklet. Setting up this unit is simple, and the instructions break down the set up and controls into very easy steps. The little booklet included with this air purifier also explains how each of the filters work, which we’ll get to in a moment.
When the PURO²XYGEN P500 arrives, the internal filters are protected with a plastic bag. After removing this, you simply put the filters back into the unit and you’re good to go. It’s worth noting that for the first time that you use this purifier, it does give off a slight plastic smell, which took a few minutes to disappear. When it comes to positioning the PURO²XYGEN P500, you’ll need to leave at least four inches all the way around it for it to work properly. The power cable on this unit is adequate so that you can position it with plenty of room from the power socket.
Once you’re all set up, you simply switch on the air purifier on the unit itself or via the remote control. It’ll quickly get to work measuring the air quality in your room. Once it has done this, it displays a colored ring on its screen. Green means excellent air quality, blue is good, yellow is medium, and red is poor air quality. The PURO²XYGEN P500 also measures the Air Pollution Index in your home. Taking just a few seconds to do this, the purifier will display a number on its screen to indicate this. The Air Pollution Index (API) is a scale from 0 to 500, with anything below 50 considered to be good air quality.
PURO²XYGEN P500: Features
The PURO²XYGEN P500 is fitted with a five-stage filter. It claims to remove 99.98% of airborne pollutants such as pet dander, smoke, mold, dust, and pollen particles. The five stages include a pre-filter to capture things such as pet dander and dust, a HEPA filter that absorbs harmful particles, an activated carbon filter to absorb odors, a UV light to disinfect, and finally, negative ions.
When you turn the machine on, the UV and ionization mode will automatically be switched on. The UV kills 99% of virus bacteria, and the ionization aims to eradicate odors. You can switch off the UV mode with ease on the machine itself, but you won’t be able to switch the ionization off unless you use the remote control.
This air purifier also has an Auto Mode that will automatically adjust its fan speed to suit the number of pollutants in your room. The PURO²XYGEN P500 is also fitted with a digital screen that's fairly easy to navigate. The display will provide you with an air quality indication, filter health indication, and it also has a night light that won’t keep you awake.
What we liked about the PURO²XYGEN P500 is that it has a child lock which is pretty easy to put in place, however, the remote control will still work in this mode, so you’ll need to keep that away from children too. A timer function lets you select anywhere from one hour to 12 hours so that the machine will turn off by itself.
Sleep mode also switches the PURO²XYGEN P500 to its slowest fan speed and the LED lighting is switched off too.
PURO²XYGEN P500: Performance
There are three different fan speeds on the PURO²XYGEN P500, one being the quietest and slowest, three being the fastest, and subsequently the loudest. These fan speeds range from 350 RPM to 800 RPM. This purifier is fairly loud during the day time on the lowest setting, but on the highest it really will take some getting used to. It claims to be similar to office ambiance noise, but with many of us spending more and more time at home, we're not convinced this is a good level of sound.
The noise the PURO²XYGEN P500 makes really is its biggest let down. Despite claiming to be virtually silent, we found it to be acceptable on the lowest fan speed during the day time, however, the night mode was simply too loud and will really take some getting used to. If you wanted to operate the air purifier at night with a more powerful fan speed, you won’t be able to turn the lights off and you also will have to suffer with the noise being even louder.
The PURO²XYGEN P500 is easy to set up, but due to its display having limited buttons, you’re going to need to keep the instruction booklet with you for a while as you get to know which button combinations make this air purifier work as you intended.
This air purifier is also not smart-enabled so you won’t be able to control it from your phone. However, it is one of the cheapest we reviewed so it’s expected that this can’t be controlled via an app.
As with most air purifiers, you’ll have to factor in the costs and time to change the filters on this unit. The manufacturers recommend you clean the outlet grills, sensor, and filters every two months. Replacement filters for the PURO²XYGEN P500 cost just under $30.
PURO²XYGEN P500: User reviews
The PURO²XYGEN P500 scores an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars on Amazon. Lots of users praised this unit as good value for money, powerful, and also enjoyed the digital display that counts down the pollutants as it takes them out of the air. Despite our tests, some users also found this purifier to be perfectly quiet enough for their needs.
Some users criticized the dust purifier functions, suggesting that the dust sensor for this isn’t placed well. One user also said that they would have liked to be able to adjust the fan speed in night mode. They also suggested that the fact the intake is positioned at the back of the unit isn’t ideal.
Should you buy the PURO²XYGEN P500?
If you need an air purifier that’s suitable for larger rooms, the PURO²XYGEN P500 is an affordable option. It is, however, quite loud and it’ isn't smart-enabled, so you won’t be able to control it from your phone. Its air pollutant indicators are useful and the digital display does dim in Night Mode, but in order to get the full benefit from this air purifier, you have to be prepared to get used to its noise.
