The best gas ranges are essential for any kitchen upgrade. These appliances will make a difference in your everyday cooking routine, so they must be chosen carefully.

In this guide, we've compiled a list of the absolute best gas ranges you can buy right now. From high-tech, premium models to more basic but reliable ones, there's an option for every household. We've scoured the internet to find models from brands like Samsung, LG, GE, and Whirlpool to recommend.

Choosing a gas range can be overwhelming, so we've also put together some buying advice to help you make the best purchasing decision for you. Some things to look out for are how powerful the gas range is - power is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units), so the higher that number, the quicker your range will cook, grill, and steam.

If you're after a range with all the bells and whistles, then you'll want to go for a premium model that has features like Wi-Fi connectivity. This will come at a price, but if you're after a high-tech range, then it's worth it.

1. GE JGSS86SPSS

The best gas range with double oven

Reasons to buy

+
 Center oval burner
+
 Integrated griddle

Reasons to avoid

-
Not smart-enabled
-
Not fingerprint resistant

If you have a large family or run a busy household, the GE JGSS86SPSS gas range with a double oven is designed to make lives easier. The double capacity provides much more space to evenly cook a variety of dishes at once, saving valuable time.

This gas range features a large integrated, non-stick griddle, which sits on the middle oval burner and is great for pancakes or quick fry-ups.

With handy cooktop settings such as delay bake and delay start sabbath mode, this allows more control over your baking preferences. The GE JGSS86SPSS is also equipped with an in-oven broiler to get the perfect broiling temperature and a steam clean option that takes 30 minutes to work.

What this gas range lacks, however, is Wi-Fi capabilities, a second-timer, and fingerprint-resistant finish options.

The best smart gas range

2. LG LTG4715ST

The best smart gas range

Reasons to buy

+
ProBake convection
+
Smart enabled

Reasons to avoid

-
No storage drawer
-
The LED control panel is not backlit

The LG LTG4715ST is a smart double gas range with a huge 6.9 cubic feet capacity. It is also one of the best gas ranges for bakers due to the ProBake convection it offers. This technology heats up the oven faster and distributes heat evenly to perfect those bakes.

Besides cakes, this smart gas range is equipped with powerful burners, including an Ultra Heat burner to generate quick and intense heat. In addition, it has convenient accessories such as a detachable wok grate,  a griddle plate, a gliding rack, and an in-oven broiler.

As you’d expect from a premium range, it has clever features such as the intuitive glass touchscreen, which is easy to operate at the touch of a button. Bear in mind this can be very sensitive, so it may be prone to those accidental touch settings or be annoying for some users.

Of course, the key selling point here is the LG LTG4715ST’s smart features that efficiently give you more control to monitor your cooking remotely from your phone via the app. One downside worth noting is that this smart gas range doesn’t have a  storage drawer.

The best budget gas range

3. Whirlpool WFG320M0BS

The best budget gas range

Reasons to buy

+
Under-oven broiler
+
Affordable

Reasons to avoid

-
No storage drawer
-
Doesn’t have fifth burner

The Whirlpool WFG320M0BS is a cheap gas range with ample room to manage your daily cooking needs. What’s more, it’s equipped with a large under-oven broiler, and the Custom Broil allows you to set accurate broiling temperatures.

Unlike other models, it doesn’t have a fifth burner, which is a real letdown. However, its four SpeedHeat burners are great for rapidly boiling, frying, and searing your dishes. The Whirlpool WFG320M0BS is easy to operate with simple electronic controls. It comes with a convenient control lock that disables the control panel in case of accidental changes to your settings.

Although it doesn’t come with useful preset cook options, this gas range is cheaper than the others we’ve reviewed, so you wouldn’t expect as many high-end features. However, the range comes in several colors, including black, stainless steel, and white.

If you cater to a large family and require more capacity, this may not be ideal for you. Plus, notable downsides are the lack of storage and lack of smart features.

4. Maytag MGR6600FB

The best gas range for warranty

Reasons to buy

+
Long warranty
+

Reasons to avoid

-
Pricey
-
Smaller capacity

The Maytag MGR6600FB is a durable, single-gas range oven that delivers powerful cooking results. It also comes with a long, ten-year parts warranty to put your mind at ease. Most ranges usually come with a standard one-year warranty, so this will save you money in the long term.

Besides having an impressive warranty, the Maytag MGR6600FB has plenty of features to make cooking a breeze. It comes with a fairly small five cubic feet capacity but has a quick-heating system to ensure optimum performance. The Precision Control sensors will make sure you get evenly-cooked meals each time.

The Maytag MGR6600FB also has five high-intensity burners, including a Simmer Burner that goes from 800 to 5,000 BTU, which is handy for quick dishes. The convenient oval burner easily fits a griddle pan or oversized cookware.

Other features include the variable broil and the delay bake setting allows you to program the time needed for all your baking delights. It doesn’t have a double oven or convection but does come with useful features like the handy lower storage drawer.

The best 30" gas range

5. Frigidaire FGGH3047VF

The best 30" gas range

Reasons to buy

+
Air Fry option
+
Smudge-proof finish

Reasons to avoid

-
Expensive
-
Not smart-enabled

If you’re after a versatile, 30-inch gas range that has everything you need and more, the Frigidaire FGGH3047VF is ideal. What’s more, the air fry option allows you to cook healthier meals that won’t leave you feeling guilty about those calories!

The Frigidaire FGGH3047VF range owes its impressive cooking results to its True Convection system. This convection fan and third heating element evenly circulate hot air around the oven faster, creating evenly baked results. Plus, the three oven racks also allow more space for those extra baking trays or dishes. The range also comes with an in-oven broiler and griddle pan for more variety.

Other useful features include the Quick Preheat setting, quick boil burner designed to heat water much faster, lower storage drawer, and a control lock, ideal for families with young children. It’s also designed to be smudge-resistant to eliminate those unsightly fingerprints.

What lets it down is the lack of cook preset settings besides Sabbath Mode. In addition, for a gas range of this price, it’s surprising not to have any WiFi capabilities available.

6. Samsung NX60A6311SS/AA

The best gas range with integrated griddle

Reasons to buy

+
5-burner cooktop including griddle
+
Self clean function
+
Wi-Fi connectivity

Reasons to avoid

-
Only 18k BTU

This premium gas range from Samsung comes with all the bells and whistles. Think of a self-cleaning function that deep cleans the oven by heating it to a high temperature to burn off grease and debris, to Wi-Fi connectivity, which enables you to connect to Samsung's SmartThings Cooking app. From this interface, you can plan meals, connect to other Samsung appliances, and monitor your cooking from a distance.

While this gas range isn't the widest at just under 30 inches or the most powerful at 18k BTU, it does have 5 burners, which is great if you're cooking a few things at once. It also has a Dual-Ring Power Burner that can boil a pot of water in minutes and an integrated griddle to experiment with different types of cooking.

The oven that comes with this gas range has a large 6.0 cu. ft. capacity, which can fit multiple dishes at one time. It has Bread Proof, Keep Warm, and other preset settings for ease of use. It also comes with a storage drawer to keep all your bakeware and accessories, saving you cupboard and countertop space.

How to choose the best gas range for you

When looking for your next gas range, there are several things you'll want to consider. First (and perhaps most obviously) is price: we've included a range of options in this guide to suit most budgets, from premium models with all the bells and whistles to simple (but perfectly functional) ranges.

Tied into considerations of price, you should think about the power you want your gas range to pack. A decent model will boast at least 20,000 BTU of power, so it can cope with any cooking technique and cook food reliably, so look out for that in your appliance's spec sheet.

Gas ranges aren't all equal when it comes to size, either. Some models have a larger cooking size than others, so depending on who you're catering for, you'll have to take that into account. Some models have surfaces 36" wide and over, which is ideal if you have a large family or like using many pans at once, while others are slimmer and will suit smaller kitchens better.

Lastly, as with most appliances, premium gas ranges come with a range of smart features. From Wi-Fi connectivity to self-cleaning functions, these features will set you back a few extra hundred dollars, but they might be worth it if you're ready to invest.

Gas range FAQs

What is the best gas range?

If you’re a whiz in the kitchen and you tend to bake a lot in bulk, the best gas range for you will have one large cavity to fit all your goods. This will make it easier to whisk food in and out of the oven without too much fumbling around.

Similarly, if you’re planning on using the range very frequently, say for a big family or large household, a gas range with a self-clean function is pretty nifty at helping to battle grime. Perhaps invest in a gas range with more than one power burner for an extra helping hand, as you’re likely to need more power to cook through large portions of food at a time.

Smaller households and the more occasional cooks will probably find a smaller-sized gas range more suitable. A model with two ovens will save counter space as well as costs on purchasing an additional toaster or microwave, as you can use the extra oven for basic tasks such as reheating.

Which gas ranges can air fry?

Aside from dedicated features for baking and warming, a recently sought-after feature within gas ranges is the ability to air fry. Air frying involves circulating air at a high temperature to give an all-around cooking effect and gives similar effects as deep frying without excess oil. By combining the uses of an air fryer within your gas range, you can have chicken wings and fries as a midweek treat and save on another hefty appliance on your countertops.

The Frigidaire FGGH3047VF is the perfect model for you if you want to be able to air fry. You can use it on frozen foods, including fries, to get an even-all-around cook. This oven also has a broiler and the option for a ‘Quick Preheat.’ So if you want to try your hand at air frying, or you’re a keen baker, there’s plenty for you to like.

Do gas ranges use propane or do they need electricity?

Despite their name, gas ranges use both propane and electricity as a source of energy. That’s because gas ranges require electricity to run many of the extra features they come with. This includes the likes of your gas range’s clock, timer, oven light, and any smart features if it needs to connect to the Wi-Fi.

However, it’s worth noting that gas ranges don’t use anywhere near as much electricity as an electric range cooker, which relies solely on electricity for everything. With gas ranges, the actual cooktop and oven are powered by propane, which enables your range to heat up far more quickly. So, just remember: if you purchase a gas range, you need to make sure you have a power socket nearby, as well as a gas line.

Do gas ranges need to be vented?

The quick answer to this is no – most gas ranges in the United States don’t need to be vented to the outside. The only time venting is required is if your gas range contains special features like a unit that smokes or a cooktop grill. However, you may wish to invest in a vent for your gas range for a number of reasons.

Firstly, venting will help to replenish the quality of the air you and others in your household breathe. It also helps get rid of unwanted cooking smells and gas smells. Generally speaking, we’d recommend consulting with your manufacturer or fitter to make sure your gas range doesn’t need to be vented for peace of mind.

And, while using your gas range, it’s best to open your kitchen windows slightly to allow fresh air to come. This gives you a natural ventilation method that will help to reduce any fumes.
