✅ Your air fryer should be easy to use: The front of the Cosori Lite Air Fryer has an intuitive control panel with preset modes, making it easy to start cooking without instructions.
✅ You have limited countertop space: Weighing just under 10 lbs and with a small four-quart capacity, this air fryer fits nicely into kitchens that have less countertop space to play with.
✅ You’re on a budget: At a listed price of $111.98, the Cosori Lite Air Fryer is one of the most budget-friendly air fryers, and it doesn’t sacrifice any power.

Don't buy it if:

❌ You’re cooking for more than four: The four-quart capacity is suitable for cooking a moderately sized meal for up to four people, but large families will find a larger air fryer a better fit.
❌ You can’t stand fingerprint marks: The Cosori Lite Air Fryer tends to attract fingerprint marks, so if you don't want to have to wipe down the surface regularly, you should probably consider other options.
❌ You require lots of functions: This air fryer is only designed to air fry food, so if you want to grill, fry, and bake, alternative air fryers offer far more functions.

The bottom line

🔎 The Cosori Lite Air Fryer is a small but powerful air fryer with minimal space but plenty of pre-set cooking modes, an intuitive digital display, and a great budget-friendly introduction to air fryers. ★★★★

The COSORI Lite Air Fryer is a compact, powerful kitchen appliance with a 1500-watt heating element. Its pre-set cooking functions and "shake" reminder provide convenience, while the dishwasher-safe components offer easy cleaning. Its sleek design and safety features make it suitable for small kitchens and homes.

Capacity: The compact size makes it a great option for small kitchens or homes with just one person.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: This air fryer has a powerful 1500-watt heating element that cooks food quickly and efficiently. During testing, it crisped bacon and cooked thick-cut fries quickly. The powerful heating element also means that users must monitor cooking times, as the air fryer can overcook certain foods if left unattended.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: The COSORI Lite Air Fryer has pre-sets for vegetables, chicken, and fries. These presets make cooking easy and make sure you get consistent results. The air fryer also has a "shake" function that reminds you to wiggle the basket halfway through cooking, ensuring even browning and crisping. It's great for fries and chicken tenders.

Ease of Cleaning: The COSORI Lite Air Fryer can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand. Its sleek, minimalist exterior makes it easy to clean. However, the glossy finish on the control panel might attract fingerprints, so you'll have to clean it more often.

Build Quality and Safety Features: The COSORI Lite Air Fryer, with its sleek, minimalist design and muted gray color, will look great in most kitchens. Using minimal plastic in the construction is a plus for those who care about reducing waste. The air fryer has standard safety features, including automatic shut-off and cool-touch housing. It also keeps a relatively low volume during use.

Buy it if

✅ You require family-sized portions: With a seven-quart capacity, two dividable baskets, and enough room for a 4-lb pork roast and vegetables, families of four will find plenty of space to cook.
✅ You don’t always cook one-pot meals: The MegaZone can be divided into two dual-zone baskets, making it possible to cook meals that your typical single-drawer air fryer will struggle to handle.
✅ You struggle with your timings: The air fryer's Sync button lets you sync up the two drawers to ensure that one dish isn’t ready before the other.

Don't buy it if:

❌ You are noise intolerant: The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer emits an average of 59 decibels, making it noisier than most electric ovens.
❌ You lack counter space: This larger air fryer requires 5.9 inches of space on all sides, so you may run out of countertop space or have to sacrifice other kitchen appliances to make room.
❌ You’re not hungry: The air fryer has enough space for cooking a meal for up to six people or four very hungry mouths, so if you’re just not that hungry most of the time, the space will be overkill.

The bottom line

🔎 The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer with 7qt MegaZone easily handles family-sized portions and slightly more complicated meals with the help of a large seven-quart capacity, six pre-set cooking modes, and the ability to sync up and cook two different dishes simultaneously. ★★★★

The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer with 7qt MegaZone offers lots to like for a good price. It has a generous seven-quart capacity and six cooking modes. Cooking family-sized portions simultaneously in two different modes is also a breeze.

Capacity: Thanks to the Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer, which has a 7-quart capacity, our reviewer, Linda, could feed her family of four and her mother-in-law a whole chicken and root vegetables. The divider lets you cook two different things at once, so it's a great option for weeknights when you have a lot going on. However, if you don't have a lot of counter space, you might want to consider your kitchen layout before committing to this appliance.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer's powerful heating system makes it a standout. When set at 450°F, it cooked frozen burgers and fries quickly, but Linda did set off the smoke alarm while she tested the Air Broil function. Overall, it cooked well and was fast, and she liked how it handled air frying and baking.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: With six cooking programs, you can cook a lot of food. Linda loved using the Match button and divider to simultaneously cook salmon fish cakes and roasted potatoes. The presets are easy to adjust, and she could adjust cooking times and temperatures as needed. Even though the Air Broil setting is fixed, the other functions make it a great addition to her kitchen.

Ease of Cleaning: The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer is easy to clean. Linda usually soaks the basket and crisper plates in hot, soapy water, so scrubbing them is much easier. The nonstick parts are dishwasher-safe, but she prefers handwashing them to extend their life. It's easy to clean, especially after cooking meals that leave residue, and it minimizes mess.

Build Quality and Safety Features: The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket Air Fryer feels solid. It has a functional design and a user-friendly control panel. It doesn't win beauty contests, but the sleek aluminum trim adds a touch of style. It has safety features like an automatic shut-off and sturdy construction, so it's safe to use. While it's louder than Linda's electric oven, she feels safe and confident in its performance.

Buy it if

✅ You cook many different foods: It performs well in cooking various types of food, such as roast vegetables, chicken skewers, and halloumi, delivering crispy and juicy results.
✅ You had hand-washing: The baskets and crisper plates are non-stick and dishwasher-safe

Don't buy it if:

❌ You’re short of space: It is not a very compact option, which means it may take up a lot of counter space and may not be suitable for small kitchens.
❌ You're particularly interested in the "sync finish" option: The function may not be as reliable as desired, which could be a problem for those who want both sides of their food to be ready simultaneously.
❌ You're on a budget: It is relatively expensive, and there are other good alternatives available at a similar or lower price point.

The bottom line

🔎 The Cosori Dual Basket 9Qt Air Fryer is spacious and feature-rich. It has customizable settings, windows to see your food cooking and multiple cooking modes. However, it's not compact, and the sync finish feature isn't reliable ★★★★½

If you're looking for an air fryer with plenty of features, the COSORI Dual Basket 9Qt Air Fryer might be worth considering. It can make cooking easier with windows on the front of each basket, an internal light, and a reminder to shake foods. However, it's not the most compact option, and the sync finish feature may not be as reliable as desired.

Capacity: Our reviewer, Helen, loved the Cosori Dual Basket 9Qt Air Fryer's impressive capacity, which made it perfect for families or meal prepping. With the dual-basket feature, she could easily make a full meal. She recently made homemade fries and frozen fish fillets; both baskets had room for everything. It's a bigger appliance, but its width makes it fit on her counter without taking up too much room.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: Because this air fryer heated up fast and cooked food evenly, Helen was impressed with how well her chicken goujons turned out in just 12 minutes at 200°C/390°F. With the automatic preheat feature, everything starts at the right temperature. Also, she found that the sync finish function wasn't always working as she expected, causing some dishes to finish at a different time. Overall, she's happy with the cooking performance, which yielded crispy and delicious results.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: Helen could prepare various meals with the Cosori Dual Basket Air Fryer, which can air fry, roast, bake, and broil. She enjoyed trying the different features with the sync cook button, which mirrors settings across both baskets. Using the bake function, she baked granola beautifully and used the air fry setting to cook chicken skewers. She noticed, however, that you can only broil one basket at a time.

Ease of Cleaning: The Cosori Dual Basket Air Fryer is easy to clean, thanks to its nonstick components. You can wash the baskets and crisper plates in the dishwasher, but you can also wash them yourself. As a result, maintenance has been hassle-free, so Helen could focus on cooking instead of cleaning. She liked how the design minimizes mess, and the nonstick coating makes it easy to remove food residue.

Build Quality and Safety Features: The Cosori Dual Basket Air Fryer is a stylish addition to Helen's kitchen because of its sleek, uncluttered appearance and angled control panel. Its thoughtful design, like windowed baskets, allowed her to check on the food without opening it. Safety features, like the auto-shutoff, kept her safe while cooking. The wide width made it easy to maneuver, and she loved how it's all geared towards functionality.

Buy it if:

✅You need lots of space: The almost 12x12-inch cooking area is perfect for making large pizzas and other snacks for a big group.
✅ You like an industrial design: The metallic silver dome shape gives the air fryer a unique and stylish look that would fit perfectly in a modern kitchen.
✅ You want a smart appliance: The app is handy for finding recipes and controlling the air fryer through your phone or tablet.

Don't buy it if:

❌ You're short on space: It's a big appliance that may take up a lot of counter space in your kitchen.
❌ You're on a budget: The Typhur Dome air fryer is a pricey option compared to other air fryers in the market.
❌ You want a deep basket: The basket is not deep enough, and there's no viewing window, which means you'll need to open it to check on your food.

The bottom line

🔎 The Typhur Dome air fryer has a large cooking area and cooks food quickly and evenly. It offers app control, but it's expensive and takes up a lot of space. There's no viewing window, so you can't check on your food without disrupting the cooking ★★★★

The Typhur Dome air fryer is a fantastic option for those who love making pizza at home. With its large, almost 12x12-inch cooking area, it's perfect for creating delicious, crispy pizzas. Although it may be heavy and bulky, its industrial design and impressive performance make it a top contender in the air fryer market.

Capacity: Our reviewer, Danielle, loved the Typhur Dome's spacious 5.6-quart capacity, which let her cook bigger meals easily. She also loved the shallow 2-inch-deep basket, which provides plenty of cooking space for large food items like chicken and pizzas. She recently made a frozen pizza that was 12 inches long, and it fit perfectly.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: Whether Danielle was air-frying chicken wings or baking granola, she was amazed at how crispy and evenly cooked food was. Several cooking modes, including Air-Frying and toasting, can produce impressive results in under 20 minutes. The cooking time wasn't the same as the app's recipes, but she got the perfect result by adjusting it slightly.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: Typhur Dome has multiple cooking functions, including air frying, roasting, broiling, toasting, and dehydrating. The app was especially useful for recipe ideas, but Danielle found it more convenient than necessary. It was great to set the temperature between 105 and 450°F, and she loved the preset buttons. While some presets needed tweaking for optimal results, the device's versatility allows her to experiment with different types of recipes easily.

Ease of Cleaning: The Typhur Dome is easy to clean, and the ceramic-coated basket and grill plate are dishwasher safe. The self-cleaning feature is accessible from the app, but it's not very effective.

Build Quality and Safety Features: The Typhur Dome feels premium and has a sleek, industrial design perfect for Danielle's kitchen. However, its weight and size—20.5 pounds—make it hard to fit into small spaces. It's easy to use, but fingerprints can get on it. Safety features like the rear air vent and sturdy construction kept her safe during use. In terms of design, she liked it, but she thinks it's best suited to people who have plenty of counter space.

✅You need lots of space: The Cosori TurboBlaze 6.0-Quart Air Fryer has six quarts of space, which is enough space to cook salmon filets for a group of five, making it great for families.
✅ You hate noise: Some air fryers can be noisy, but this model runs quieter than most, meaning you can get on with work or tend to nap children without worrying.
✅ You have children: The air fryer has helpful safety features, such as shutting off when the basket is removed, making it safer if you have young children around the house.

Don't buy it if:

❌ You want the most budget-friendly option: This air fryer is quite budget-friendly, but considering its size and power, it’s more expensive than other air fryers like the Magic Bullet.
❌ You can’t monitor the food: This air fryer may be incredibly powerful and quick to cook, but it often burns food even on the pre-set modes, so you may need to pay careful attention sometimes.
❌ You just want to air fry: This model can roast, bake, broil, and even rehydrate food, so if you’re only planning on using the air fry function, you can easily find a cheaper option.

The bottom line

🔎 The Cosori TurboBlaze 6.0-Quart Air Fryer works efficiently with minimal fuss, and it’s a dream if you need plenty of cooking space, as it has a spacious 6-quart interior suited to bigger portions. ★★★★

The Cosori TurboBlaze 6.0-Quart Air Fryer is hard to fault for big families, with its spacious six-quart capacity and many different functions. Thoughtful safety features also make this model extra family-friendly.

Capacity: Our reviewer, James, said that the cooking needs of the Cosori TurboBlaze Air Fryer are perfect for the 6.0-quart capacity. The square basket allows for more versatility, fitting larger items like baking pans or multiple salmon filets with no problem. Because it's so spacious, he could make meals for my five family members without problem. He could prepare main dishes and sides at the same time, which makes meal prep easy.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: With the Cosori TurboBlaze, James was very impressed with the cooking. In addition to cooking meals up to 46% faster than other air fryers, the results were always crispy and delicious, whether he was air-frying salmon or reheating leftovers. However, adjusting cooking times to avoid overcooking could be tricky. Nevertheless, the powerful heating element made it a reliable choice for busy weeknights because it cooks faster than expected.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: With nine cooking functions, including air frying, roasting, baking, and dehydrating, the Cosori TurboBlaze is versatile enough to handle various recipes. The presets are super helpful for beginners who don't know what settings to use. James liked using the dehydrate function for snacks like mangoes. The frozen button seemed redundant, but the presets were awesome. The various functions let him experiment with different cooking methods, making it a great all-rounder.

Ease of Cleaning: James' favorite thing about the Cosori TurboBlaze is its ease of cleaning. The non-stick coating on the basket and crisper plate keeps food from sticking, so cleaning is a snap. When he finished with the removable basket, he soaked it in water, and both parts could be put in the dishwasher. He made everything from crispy fries to dehydrated fruit and never had to scrub hard.

Build Quality and Safety Features: Despite the exterior being plastic, the interior components are all metal, so nothing plastic comes into contact with food. The build quality of the Cosori TurboBlaze feels solid and reliable. James liked the LED control panel and the safety feature that turns off the fryer when you remove the basket. It doesn't get too hot when used, making it even safer.

✅ Cooking simultaneously is your goal: The Instant Vortex Plus Dual 8-quart Stainless Steel Air Fryer is a two-drawer air fryer that can cook two different dishes at once with different time and/or temperature settings, great for more complicated meals.
✅ You cook big portions: Whether cooking for the family or preparing your meals for the next few days, the eight-quart capacity can hold bigger portions than smaller air fryers.
✅ Your air fryer should be easy to use: This air fryer’s combined digital display and dial make adjusting the temperature settings or selecting a mode quick and easy.

Don't buy it if:

❌ You’re on a strict budget: At $179.95, this air fryer is quite reasonably priced. However, cheaper air fryers are available with similar features or less space.
❌ You have minimal counter space: Unless you’re willing to sacrifice other countertop appliances, you’ll need to ensure that you have enough room for the larger Instant Vortex Plus air fryer to breathe.
❌ You cook for one person only: If you live alone, you’re less likely to benefit from this air fryer’s dual drawer system and may get frustrated that there is no removable divider between the baskets.

The bottom line

🔎 The Instant Vortex Plus Dual 8-quart Stainless Steel Air Fryer makes air frying family-sized portions feel straightforward with its two cooking baskets, window, internal light, and syncing tools. Still, it lacks a removable divider and requires some scrubbing. ★★★★

The Instant Vortex Plus Dual 8-quart Stainless Steel Air Fryer is a stand-out air fryer for anyone who wants a family-friendly way to cook.

Capacity: The 8-quart capacity of the Instant Vortex Plus Dual Air Fryer was a game changer for my family meals. The dual basket design lets me cook two different things at the same time—perfect for picky eaters. It's spacious enough to make food for gatherings or weeknight dinners without feeling cramped. I cooked the fish in one basket while frying homemade fries in the other. This air fryer is quite large, so it might not fit well in smaller kitchens.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: There's 1700 watts of power in the Instant Vortex Plus, so it cooks food faster than my conventional oven, which is a huge time-saver. It's always delicious, whether I'm cooking crispy fries or perfectly cooked chicken. It's really easy to adjust cooking times and temperatures with Sync Cook and Sync Finish features. It's helpful to adjust cooking times slightly when cooking delicate foods to avoid overcooking.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: A standout feature of the Instant Vortex Plus is its versatility. I've experimented with a bunch of recipes using its multiple cooking functions, like air frying, roasting, baking, and dehydrating. You can use the Sync Cook and Sync Finish settings to cook meals with different cooking requirements. I cooked chicken and vegetables together recently, and it turned out well. Though it doesn't have a wide temperature range, it covers most cooking needs.

Ease of Cleaning: Cleaning the Instant Vortex Plus is a bit of a mixed bag. It's easy to access the cooking elements with the removable baskets and grill plates, but the rubber grips tend to collect grease and food particles on the grill plates. You need to scrub under those parts thoroughly to make sure they're clean because non-stick surfaces make it less likely for food to stick.

Build Quality and Safety Features: I like the design of the Instant Vortex Plus, which features a sleek stainless steel finish that looks great on my counter. The touchscreen interface is easy to use for everyone in the family, and the safety feature that turns the fryer off when the baskets are taken out gives me peace of mind. It's cool to the touch, but I still recommend exercising caution because any appliance can get hot.

🔎 The Instant Slim Air Fryer is great if you want to save countertop space and have a family-sized capacity. It's also a good value for money and from a trusted brand. However, if you need a slim and small air fryer or want an easy-to-clean grill plate, this may not be the best option ★★★★

This compact air fryer is small enough to fit in amongst your other countertop gadgets yet has a surprisingly roomy 6-quart capacity that can cook up to 4 lbs of chicken. Its simple interface and affordable price make it a great choice for anyone looking for a quality air fryer that won't break the bank.

I've been experimenting with healthier recipes, making crispy bacon and perfect vegetables, and even though it doesn't have as many functions as larger models, it certainly covers the basics.

Ease of Cleaning: It's pretty easy to clean the Instant Slim Air Fryer. Because of its non-stick surface, food doesn't stick to the basket or grill plate. Although the rubber grips can collect grease, I've been able to clean them with a quick hand wash. It's dishwasher-safe for the basket and grill plate. I recommend paying extra attention to the rubber parts.

Build Quality and Safety Features: With its sleek and modern design that fits well in my kitchen, the Instant Slim Air Fryer feels solid. When the air fryer is off, it looks pretty, thanks to its rounded edges and minimalistic design. Using the single control knob and clear interface, it's easy to navigate settings, and the progress bar keeps me focused as I cook. When the basket is removed, it automatically shuts off, so I don't have to worry.

The bottom line

🔎 The Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer Air-200 makes delicious food that can be observed as it cooks using a handy viewing window with easy clean-up afterward, though some of its settings are useless. ★★★★

The Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer Air-200 offers a spacious 6-quart capacity, efficient cooking performance, and versatile cooking functions. It provides easy cleaning and boasts a solid build with safety features. Despite minor issues with default cooking times and the tossing reminder, this air fryer is a reliable and stylish addition to any kitchen.

Capacity: In addition to holding a whole chicken or a bunch of fries, the Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer Air-200 has a 6-quart capacity that's perfect for family meals. Even though it's not the smallest air fryer on the market, it fits nicely on Danielle's countertop. Its spacious design lets you cook multiple trays at once, from roasted veggies to full meals. In a small kitchen, you might have to store it, but she thinks it's worth it for the cooking capacity.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: Cooking with the Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer Air-200 was great. The heating mechanism consistently cooks food crisply and evenly. Danielle used different presets, including chicken and vegetables, and everything came out awesome. It was best to cook veggies at 375°F for 15 minutes, though she did note that some cooking times needed to be adjusted, especially for frozen items like fries, which burned when set to default. The speed at which it cooks food is amazing compared to her conventional oven.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: With presets for cooking foods like fries, meat, and vegetables, the Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer caters to a variety of cooking needs. The tossing reminder is nice, too, although it sometimes gets a bit delayed. With different settings, Danielle was able to make everything from crispy chicken wings to perfectly roasted vegetables. Even though some presets didn't produce significantly different results, the air fryer allows quick cooking and experimenting.

Ease of Cleaning: Danielle's favorite thing about the Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer is how easy it is to clean. Dishwasher safe, but she washed hers by hand most of the time. It's easy to clean with dish soap, and the nonstick surface keeps food from sticking too much. It's easy to clean, but don't dump out food too much on the crisper plate.

Build Quality and Safety Features: It feels solid and reliable to use the Cuisinart Basket Air Fryer Air-200. Stainless steel accents complement Danielle's kitchen decor, and the viewing window and large handle add functionality so she can watch her food without losing heat. Although fingerprints show up easily, the overall aesthetic is sleek. Despite not having an on/off switch, this appliance's design and safety features make it a reliable addition to the kitchen.

You like presets: If you’re like us, you’ll appreciate that the presets can put you in the ballpark of what a particular food item requires.
You don’t like using your oven: the Hamilton Beach Digital Air Fryer is versatile enough to cook various types of food.
You like to see what's cooking: The glass window and light feature allow you to check on your food's cooking progress.

Don't buy it if

You like to cook large items: Although the air fryer can hold a rotisserie chicken, it slides into dedicated rotisserie slots in the oven. Due to a lack of space, you might be unable to cook other large items in the oven.
You don’t like icons: After seeing them a few times, you’ll get the hang of it, but you may prefer a different type of control panel.

The bottom line

🔎 The Hamilton Beach Digital Air Fryer can cook many of your favorite foods, whether you want to air fry, toast, roast, or dehydrate. However, the door is rather tricky. ★★★★

The Hamilton Beach Air Fryer is a great choice for quick, easy meals requiring little effort. It’s easy to use, has preset buttons for most foods you're likely to cook, and is easy to adjust for less common foodstuffs.

Capacity: 5.3 quarts is a huge capacity for the Hamilton Beach Digital Air Fryer, so our reviewer, Terri, could cook dinner for her family without feeling cramped. With the three removable mesh trays, she could cook multiple things at once, which saved a lot of time. She always left room for extra sides, from chicken wings to corn on the cob. Despite not being the biggest air fryer, it strikes a great balance between size and functionality, so it's perfect for family meals.

Wattage and Cooking Performance: With 1700 watts of power, the Hamilton Beach Digital Air Fryer delivers solid cooking performance. It cooks food quickly and evenly, which is great on a busy weeknight. With presets for chicken, fries, and veggies, it's easy to get started, and you can adjust the temperature and time as needed. Everything Terri cooked came out juicy and flavorful, with no overcooking.

Versatility and Cooking Functions: Hamilton Beach's Digital Air Fryer is versatile. It has settings for air frying, roasting, toasting, and dehydrating. The preset options for different foods are incredibly helpful, especially for someone like Terri, who likes to experiment in the kitchen. She always had great results, whether it's crispy bacon or perfectly cooked steak. Even without a recipe book, Hamilton Beach's online resources are great.

Ease of Cleaning: With the Hamilton Beach Digital Air Fryer, you don't have to worry about cleaning. The removable mesh trays and drip pan catch spills, so cleanup is easy. Terri usually washed them in soapy water, but they're also dishwasher-safe, which is awesome. Because the rubber grips on the trays tend to collect grease, she made sure to wash them thoroughly.

Build Quality and Safety Features: With its sleek, modern look that complements Terri's other kitchen appliances, the Hamilton Beach Digital Air Fryer feels sturdy and well-made. The control panel is easy to operate, and the tilted design makes it easier to see. While cooking, she liked the safety features like the automatic shut-off when the door opens.

How to choose the best air fryer for you

When deciding if an air fryer is right for me, I consider these factors as I hunt down the best one:

Size

The size of my air fryer will dictate what and how much I can cook in it, and there are hundreds of options in different variations. For example, those with a large family may want a dual-drawer model with plenty of space, while those living alone or with a partner can probably make do with a smaller appliance. I also need to consider the size of my kitchen and how much counter space I can spare.

Wattage

The wattage of my air fryer is important for several reasons, including electricity use and the time it takes for food to cook. Typically, the higher the wattage, the greater the efficiency and, thus, the higher the price tag.

Cleaning

Many air fryers have non-stick coatings, which make cleaning much easier, though I have to be prepared to take care of it when cleaning to maintain its effectiveness. Because I'm not keen on washing up after every meal, I look for an air fryer with dishwasher-safe parts. High-end air fryers may even have a self-cleaning function.

Cooking functions

Air fryers are wonderful little devices that have the potential to replace multiple other appliances in my kitchen. Depending on the model, they can bake, grill, roast, and more, and keen chefs should look for one that can do everything they want. Air fryers with pre-programmed modes can also be useful for cooking novices, as you don't need to guess how long to cook your chicken wings.

Price

Air fryers typically cost between $100 and $300, depending upon the appliance's number of features, drawers, and capacity. For example, a small air fryer with very few pre-set modes might cost around $100, whereas a smart-enabled air fryer with two drawers might cost closer to $300.

Air fryer FAQs

How do air fryers work?

In recent years, air fryers have become increasingly popular as a healthier alternative to traditional frying methods. But how do they work? They work with a powerful heating element and a fan that circulates hot air around the food. When I put food in the cooking chamber and set the temperature, the heating element heats the air quickly.

As the fan kicks in, a whirlwind of hot air envelops the food. This circulation causes the outside to become crispy while the inside cooks. Air fryers work by moving air, which transfers heat to food instead of submerging it in oil.

Most air fryers have temperature and timer settings, so I can control how long it takes to cook and not worry as much about calories. I can cook everything from frozen fries to chicken wings to baked goods with them.

How much do air fryers cost?

The price of air fryers can vary greatly depending on their brand, size, features, and overall quality. Budget air fryers usually cost between $60 and $150. They tend to have fewer features, smaller capacities, and no advanced settings or presets.

Mid-range appliances usually have larger capacities, more cooking presets, and more features, like grilling and baking. Brands like Cosori and Philips offer a balance of affordability and performance, so home cooks get versatility without breaking the bank. I'd pay $150 to $300 for air fryers with advanced technology, bigger cooking capacities, and enhanced durability.

Smart technology, multiple cooking options (like rotisserie or dehydrating), and quality construction make high-end models stand out. If you're a serious home chef, there are plenty of high-quality air fryers from brands like Ninja and Breville.

How long do air fryers last?

Depending on the construction and materials, an air fryer can last about three to five years with proper care. Some high-quality models may even last longer. Regular use wears out components, but good maintenance can help.

If I want my air fryer to last a long time, I follow some best practices. I clean it after every use to prevent grease buildup, which can affect the performance. Also, I don't overload the basket so I don't overcook.

Frequency of use is another factor influencing the lifespan. Air fryers that are used every day might wear out faster than ones that are used occasionally. As excessive heat can damage internal components over time, users should pay attention to the cooking temperature and time.

Whenever an air fryer starts making strange noises, producing inconsistent cooking results, or showing visible damage, it might be time to replace it.

Are air fryers toxic?

Contrary to some rumors, air fryers are not toxic and are generally considered safe when used correctly. The cooking process of an air fryer involves heating food with hot air, similar to a traditional convection oven, which means there is no risk of releasing toxic chemicals. Of course, I always use my air fryer in a well-ventilated area to avoid smoke and fumes building up.

However, we'll note that some models have a non-stick coating on baskets and trays made from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and these can sometimes become harmful when brought to very high temperatures. Check your model is free from these substances.

Do air fryers use a lot of electricity?

With electricity costs continually rising, I'm often concerned about the impact of adding yet another kitchen appliance to my home. Of course, the amount of power air fryers consume depends on the model and size of the appliance, but they generally range between 800-1500W, which is far less than a traditional oven. Also, because foods in the air fryer cook more quickly, I'll use less electricity overall.

Considering the versatility of some air fryer ovens in particular, I could be able to replace my existing appliances, like microwaves and toasters, with just one appliance, saving on space and the cost of running multiple appliances. So that's worth keeping in mind during my search.

When is the best time to buy an air fryer?

Several key periods can offer significant savings and promotions regarding getting an air fryer deal.

Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the weeks leading up to Christmas are the best times to buy an air fryer. These events are great for a high-quality air fryer at a lower price since retailers often discount kitchen appliances.

In January, retailers offer promotions and discounts on air fryers and other cooking appliances to capitalize on people's resolutions to eat healthier. As new models are released, retailers may discount older models to accommodate new inventory. This can be a great time to find a reliable air fryer at a bargain.

Air fryers are often sold during online shopping events like Amazon Prime Day.

How we test the best air fryers for this guide

The air fryers we tested generally delivered on their promises. They produced crispy foods with much less oil than deep frying, but the taste might not be exactly like traditional deep-fried favorites. Keep in mind that a good convection oven, even a small countertop one, can also achieve similar results. It's worth considering whether a convection oven might better suit your needs, especially since they usually have a larger capacity and don't take up much more counter space than an air fryer. However, air fryers can be a good choice for small households and are easy to use.

Even the larger models of air fryers typically make only a small amount of food. However, air fryers can be more versatile than just for making French fries and other deep-fried favorites. Many online sources provide insight into how air fryers can be used to make full dinners, not just appetizers or side courses. Just keep in mind that it might only be suitable for dinner for two people unless you have one of the larger models.

Some of the easiest recipes we found involve items you might not initially consider putting in an air fryer. For example, you can make a large batch of baked potatoes or even a batch of eggs in the air fryer without needing to use water. Additionally, you can fry a Thanksgiving turkey in an air fryer as long as you aren't expecting a large crowd.

As long as you keep small quantities in mind, you can have fun making a variety of baked goods in your air fryer. Some models even come with baking cups and other accessories to allow for different cooking projects.
