The Impecca DVHP-9117 DVD player is the fastest loading unit we've tested which, among other features, makes it one of the best DVD players out there right now.
This will upscale DVDs to 1080p for use with an HDMI connected big screen TV so picture quality still looks good even today. This also supports lots of rewritable disc formats so it can breathe life into your backed up media library too.
While the loading speed is of great appeal, this also offers that USB 2.0 port for high-speed data transfer allowing you to play lots more media formats from MP3 and JPEG to WMA and more.
The display is basic but the remote is detailed and it's all encased in a decent looking unit that will fit in well with most other devices, even more modern players.
So is this the DVD player for you? Read on to find out everything you need to know about the Impecca DVHP-9117 DVD player.
Impecca DVHP-9117 DVD player: Design and build
The Impecca DVHP-9117 is a fairly slender unit that should fit into most cabinet units well, without standing out. The display is a pretty retro yellow and buttons are minimal on the unit itself with power, play and pause, stop and eject options. The remote features a lot more on its many soft touch buttons that cover everything you could need.
Round the back of the unit are a selection of connections including HDMI, coaxial and composite – this even comes with all the cables you could need as part of the price, at the time of publishing at least.
The front features a USB 2.0 port which is ideal for connecting media devices for photos, audio and video files.
Impecca DVHP-9117 DVD player: Features
The Impecca DVHP-9117 has a super fast load time, quicker than any other DVD player we've tested. More on that below.
The front facing USB 2.0 port is a great feature as it means you can easily get pictures, audio and even video files onto the big screen. Support is plentiful with the likes of WMA, MP3, JPEG and DivX to name just a few. That continues on into the realm of discs too with support for DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD Video and CD-R/RW.
We enjoyed the player's ability to restart from where you left off. This not only works when turned off and on again but even if you change discs.
The ability to zoom is a nice feature. Since the quality is high, no matter what the input format, you can pause and zoom in on a section of the screen for a clearer view. This works with both PAL and NTSC DVDs so regional issues shouldn't be a problem. It does plenty, but isn't as slick or feature-rich as our top pick, the Panasonic DVD-S700.
Impecca DVHP-9117 DVD player: Performance
The Impecca DVHP-9117 has a super fast load time, quicker than any other DVD player we've tested. That means from popping in the disc to watching you only have to wait 11.92 seconds on average. You still get high-quality video too and that includes the brain of this beauty upscaling DVDs to 1080p quality.
Quality isn't just about resolution though, as this also offers smooth playback with decent color reproduction for a more immersive experience. This applies visually, at least. When it comes to audio we were left wanting as this won't support Dolby Audio.
Pause the movie or show and the player will default, after a while, to a screen saver so your screen is protected from burn – not that this is an issue on most of the best TVs nowadays of course.
Should I buy the Impecca DVHP-9117 DVD player?
The Impecca DVHP-9117 is all about speed. If you want to go from putting the disc in, to watching, in record time then this is the DVD player for you. It's also a great option for anyone that will be using media from a USB source since this front loading and multi-format accepting player is an ideal way to get that content on your big screen.
Lack of Dolby Audio support could be a deal-breaker for some, and if so, you should go for the Sony DVP-SR510H instead. But for everything else, including that 1080p upscaling, this is a high performing DVD player.
