Although the Body-Solid G1S is comparable to larger home gyms in terms of performance, features and accessories, its MSRP is under $1,000, giving your wallet less of a workout. The G1S gives you 40-plus exercise options, which is less than the best home gyms.
The G1S is a weight stack system with a compact footprint and an efficient, no-cable-change design. At 49 x 36 x 83 inches (length, width and height), its dimensions are the second smallest we measured, and its design features durable 12-gauge steel. The G1S weighs 323lbs, which includes a 160lb weight stack.
The Bowflex Xtreme 2SE weighs less, but employs different resistance technologies. This home gym is one of two Body-Solid machines we reviewed. Our top overall pick is the G1S because it is so functional and durable, while the Powerline BSG10X is our choice for value. Priced about $130 less than the G1S, the BSG10x likewise provides a challenging workout, but it comes with a lesser warranty.
To properly monitor your workouts, we'd recommend using one of the best fitness trackers throughout your exercise session. You can find many for less in our guide to the best Amazon Prime Day Fitbit deals.
The G1S accommodates one user at a time, and its maximum user weight isn’t stated. Most home gyms we reviewed set this limit at 300lbs, and we assume the Body-Solid machine is similar. This machine doesn’t have an upgradeable resistance capacity, but there are accessories you can buy to enhance your workout experience.
These include a stack adapter plate, a crunch harness and a multi-purpose bar. The G1S comes standard with a lat bar, straight bar, ankle strap, ab/triceps strap, Total Body Workout DVD, water bottle holder and towel holder.
If you need customer service for the G1S, Body-Solid provides phone and email support. When we emailed the company with questions about the machine, they were answered by the company’s CEO, Scott McDonald. Before you start shopping for a home gym, he recommends you first identify your fitness goals.
“Do you want to work only on upper body? A full body exercise? Your goals will dictate the types of functions you want from the gym,” he said. “Once you determine what you need…then you should have narrowed it down to a few models and you want to evaluate warranty, reviews that you can find on line, quality of the company and similar.”
If it isn’t being used commercially, the G1S is covered by a lifetime warranty. This includes frame and welds; pulleys, bearings and bushings; and hardware, plates and guide rods. Body-Solid’s guarantee also includes cables, upholstery and grips, making it the most impressive warranty we found.
