Both are well-respected names in the home appliance world, known for their durability, cutting-edge technology, and top-tier performance. Whether you're looking for a dishwasher that balances efficiency with affordability or one packed with advanced features for the ultimate cleaning, both Bosch and Miele offer a range of models to suit different needs.

Their focus on energy efficiency, sleek designs, and user-friendly features has earned them a loyal following. However, it can be tricky to decide between the two. To help you make a more informed decision, we’ve spoken to a kitchen designer and a plumbing expert who break down what makes each brand stand out and which model might best meet your needs. Whether you're renovating your kitchen or simply upgrading your dishwasher, we’ve got the insights you need.

Bosch vs Miele dishwashers: Price and value

Dishwashers vary widely in price, depending on the brand, features, and build quality. Even when shopping with one brand, such as Bosch, you may find prices vary from several hundred dollars to close to two thousand dollars.

Budget-friendly models from Bosch's 100 and 100+ range can start as low as $549, such as the 100 Series Dishwasher 24'' SHE3AEM6N. These dishwashers offer reliable performance with basic features suitable for everyday use, but you'll find that you're limited in your color choice and advanced features in these lower-end ranges.

Priced from $699 to just over a thousand dollars, the Bosch 300 series includes additional features such as adjustable racks, Smart Cycle technology, and improved sound insulation, such as the 300 Series Dishwasher 24''SHV53CM3N, priced at $1099.00.

Spend a hundred dollars extra, and you're into the 500 series, with dishwashers that offer enhanced features like a flexible third rack and better drying performance. All the 500 series models come with Bosch's PrecisionWash™ technology, which uses intelligent sensors to monitor water use and automatically adjust the cycle for a smarter clean, such as the 500 Series Dishwasher 24'' Stainless Steel Anti-fingerprint SHX65CM5N for $1,199.

Moving into premium territory with the 800 series and the Benchmark series, you're looking at premium models averaging in price from $1,200 to $1,700. They offer advanced technologies such as CrystalDry™ for superior drying and ultra-quiet operation at just 39dB, both of which are included in the Benchmark® Dishwasher 24" SHV9PCM3N at $1,799.

While Bosch's higher-end models come with a much steeper upfront cost, they often provide better long-term reliability, energy savings, and cleaning performance, making them a worthwhile investment.

Miele, on the other hand, is known for its high-end appliances, and its dishwasher lineup reflects this with a focus on quality, innovative features and steeper pricing.

An entry-level model from Miele, such as the G 5008 SCU Active, starts at almost double the price of the cheapest Bosch, at $1299. For that, though, you'll get Miele's QuickIntenseWash, which delivers powerful cleaning and drying in under 60 minutes, a hot water connection that reduces energy use by up to 50% and an adjustable upper basket to give you more space for different dish sizes

Miele has plenty of options in its mid-market range, priced at around $1700. For this price, you'll get a quieter operation at around 42dB, a fully integrated fascia, and plenty of advanced technology. Take, for example, the G 5266 SCVi SFP Active Plus, which offers QuickIntenseWash, a 3D MultiFlex tray that offers extra space for cutlery and maximizes interior capacity, and AutoOpen drying for optimal results, plus flexible basket designs.

Miele's high-end options start at around $2,749, go as high as $3,700, and feature advanced technologies and premium finishes. Take, for example, the G 7986 SCVi AutoDos K2O. With automatic detergent dispensing for effortless efficiency, the 3D MultiFlex tray for maximum space, and BrilliantLight for clear visibility even in low light, this Miele dishwasher offers top-tier convenience and performance.

Outside of the initial cost, both Bosch and Miele offer a standard 2-year warranty on their appliances. Bosch provides an option to extend this to 5 years within 28 days of purchase, while Miele allows extensions of up to 5 or 10 years for a fee. Additionally, Bosch occasionally offers promotional 5-year warranties on selected models.

Interior designer Angie Kreller weighs it up between the two competing brands. "If we’re purely talking about the upfront cost, Bosch is the more budget-friendly option between the two," says Kreller. "They’ve got a good range of models at different price points, and you’re getting great performance without paying too much for it. Miele, on the other hand, is more of an investment brand. Their dishwashers literally last forever, have premium features and have a premium price tag to match."

Kreller says that if you are willing to spend the money for long-term value, then you should go for Miele. However, if you want something that works well and keeps your bank account happy, Bosch is the way to go.

But what happens with installation, or if something breaks, you need a new part or an engineer to pop out and fix an issue? We spoke to plumbing expert Danny Pen for his view.

"Bosch dishwashers are easier to install, use standard fittings, and parts are widely available. If something breaks, it’s usually a quick and affordable fix," says Pen. "In other words, Bosch is the safer choice for homes with older plumbing or if you want fewer headaches when repairs pop up."

"Miele, on the other hand, costs more. Their precision engineering means fussy installation as many models require a specific drain setup, and if your home’s plumbing isn’t up to spec, you could be in for an unexpected bill before it even runs its first cycle. And the same headache with repairs: you’ll likely need a factory-trained tech, and parts can take weeks to arrive."

So, while Bosch is more affordable and easier to install with widely available parts, Miele is a long-term investment with superior durability but higher installation and repair costs. My experts lean towards Bosch for cost-conscious buyers and Miele for those prioritizing longevity and premium performance.

Bosch vs Miele dishwashers: Features and functions

When comparing Bosch and Miele dishwashers, the differences in features and functionality go beyond price. Noise levels, advanced technology, sanitization, and longevity are all key factors that set these brands apart. While Bosch offers affordability and reliable performance, Miele stands out for its high-end engineering and long-term durability.

Noise is a big consideration when choosing a dishwasher, especially if your home is open-plan and you tend to hang out watching TV in the same space as your kitchen. Bosch dishwashers are well-known for their quiet operation, with higher-end models operating at just 39dB, making them nearly silent.

Miele dishwashers also excel in quietness, with many models operating at around 42dB. While slightly louder than Bosch's top-tier models, Miele's dishwashers also feature technology that optimizes water flow to reduce energy use and volume during operation.

Both Bosch and Miele integrate cutting-edge technology, but their approaches differ. Bosch’s PrecisionWash™ system uses intelligent sensors to monitor water usage and cycle time for optimal efficiency. The CrystalDry™ feature, available in the 800 and Benchmark series, uses Zeolite minerals to absorb moisture and improve drying performance, especially for tupperware.

Miele dishwashers are all about premium engineering, with AutoDos technology that automatically dispenses detergent. Their 3D MultiFlex tray provides flexible space for cutlery and small items, maximizing the capacity, while the QuickIntenseWash delivers a powerful clean in under 60 minutes, which is great for big and busy households. Their dishwashers also have an AutoOpen drying feature, which allows fresh air to circulate at the end of the cycle, reducing moisture and improving hygiene.

Key Miele features to look out for include:

  • AutoDos automatic detergent dispensing
  • QuickIntenseWash for fast, powerful cleaning
  • 3D MultiFlex tray for enhanced loading flexibility
  • AutoOpen drying for better moisture reduction
  • EcoPower technology for reduced water and energy use
  • Hot water connection option to save up to 50% on energy cost

Key Bosch features to look out for include:

  • PrecisionWash™ intelligent sensors for optimal cleaning
  • CrystalDry™ Zeolite drying for superior moisture absorption
  • Flexible third rack for extra space
  • Home Connect smart technology for remote monitoring
  • Sanitize option to eliminate bacteria
  • Ultra-quiet operation, as low as 39dB in high-end models

"While Bosch is known for its quiet operation, reliable drying and good overall cleaning power for the price, Miele is the go-to for longevity, custom wash cycles, and intense sanitization," says Pen.

"Bosch has a manual filter, which means you’ll need to clean it. Miele’s is self-cleaning, which is one less thing to worry about for homeowners who forget maintenance. Miele’s racks are smoother, sturdier, and more adjustable. Bosch is solid, but if you hate fighting with awkward pots and trays, Miele is a dream to load."

Angie Kreller adds, "Bosch is all about being a silent achiever while still being great on energy. They're a good option if your main priority is to have your kitchen sound quiet and not like a jet engine. Miele though? They are next level. Their AutoDos with AutoDisk means you don’t even have to think about detergent for months - which is great if you forget detergent on your weekly shopping trip."

Ultimately, Bosch is the go-to option for those who want a reliable and quiet dishwasher at a reasonable price, while Miele is an investment in long-term quality and premium features. If easy installation and affordability are top priorities, Bosch is the better choice. However, if longevity, advanced engineering, and superior sanitization are key concerns, Miele is well worth the higher price tag.

Bosch vs Miele dishwashers: Performance

Both Miele and Bosch are known for remarkable reliability, but with notable differences in their longevity. According to Kreller: "Both brands are crazy reliable, but Miele takes the lead for lasting the longest. Their dishwashers are tested to last 20 years, which is ancient in appliance years. Bosch models usually hit the 10-12 year mark, which is still impressive."

Pen explains, "Both brands last, but Miele has a built-in water softener, which is a game-changer if you have hard water. It prevents buildup inside the machine, meaning fewer service calls for clogged spray arms and cloudy glassware."

However, Miele's longevity comes with drawbacks. Pen says, "The downside of Miele is the complexity of repairs. If a control board fails, you're looking at a hefty repair bill and a wait for parts." This complexity might give pause to budget-conscious consumers or those living in areas with limited access to specialized repair services.

Bosch, while having a shorter lifespan, still offers plenty of value and reliability to the average household. As Kreller points out, "Bosch consistently scores high for customer satisfaction and value, so you're not sacrificing quality by going the more affordable route." However, plumbing expert Pen notes that Bosch's "biggest problem is drain hose setup on some models; it can be finicky. If it's not installed perfectly, you'll get pooling water at the bottom - one of the most common service calls we get."

Bosch vs Miele dishwashers: Which is best?

Bosch seems to be the better choice for budget-conscious buyers, offering reliable performance, quiet operation, and easy maintenance at a competitive price. With a much wider range of models than Miele, it balances affordability with quality. This makes it the ideal choice for most households. Installation and repairs are also simpler than Miele, with readily available parts and service options.

Miele, meanwhile, is a premium brand built for longevity, with dishwashers lasting up to 20 years. It features advanced technology like AutoDos detergent dispensing and a built-in water softener but these features come at a higher price. Miele's complexity of engineering also means that you'll need specialized parts, plumbers and repairs if something does goes wrong.

Ultimately, if you want affordability and convenience, Bosch is the winner. If you prioritise durability and premium features, Miele is worth the investment.

Bosch vs Miele dishwashers: What the experts say

We asked our experts which brand they would choose based on their wide-ranging knowledge of dishwasher technology and performance. t seems both of them would plump for a Miele if money were no object.

Kreller says, "If money wasn’t a thing and I could spend as much as I please, I’d go Miele all the way. It’s built like a tank, has amazing features, and you won’t need to replace it any time soon. But for most people, Bosch gives you the best mix of affordability, reliability and performance. However, I always tell clients: 'Don’t cheap out on a quiet dishwasher!' (and I really mean this!). Nothing is worse than the sound of your dishwasher drowning out the television."

Pen's opinion? "It depends. If I were installing in a rental property, it would be Bosch because it means fewer headaches, easier repairs, and solid performance. If I'm buying for my forever home, I will go for Miele because I know that with proper care, it’s the last dishwasher I’d ever need. Bosch is the practical choice, Miele is the luxury choice - but if you don’t consider installation, plumbing setup, and future repairs, you might regret whichever one you pick."

Bosch vs Miele dishwashers: FAQs

Which brand is more energy-efficient?

Both LG and Samsung models are made with energy saving in mind, but Miele has the edge when it comes to efficiency.

Its EcoPower technology and hot water connection can reduce energy use by as much as up to 50%/ Miele dishwashers also optimize water flow and can use as little as six liters (1.5 US liquid gallons) in some cycles.

That's not to say Bosch isn't also incredibly energy efficient, es[pecially when compared to other brands. Its higher-end models, such as the BenchMark and 800 series, feature PrecisionWash™ sensors that adjust water and energy use based on the load.
